You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries by following a few simple steps. First, locate a clean work area to carry out the procedure. Lay out all of the tools you need. Locate the battery's hatch and make sure it is set to “open.” Make use of a flathead screwdriver, coin or a similar tool to make the hatch to open. Next, carefully pry out the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook for the key-ring. Be sure to use rubber gloves to protect the contacts or the clips.

Locate the small slot that houses the backup or emergency key fob made of metal. Place the blade of a screwdriver or prybar tool into the slot and gently pull the back of the fob. After you have opened the fob, you can locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Replace the battery, then snap to the fob.
Note: Older Volvos have a different battery, the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 10ths of a millimeter smaller than a CR2032 battery, and you must be cautious about the placement of the replacement.
