Also, they have to be plugged into an electrical source. A lot of them have apps for smartphones for scheduling, setting and more.

iRobot Roomba 960

The iRobot Roomba 980 is the latest model in the series of top-of-the-line best robot vacuum with mopping function vacuum cleaners that are a staple of every modern household. This model is incredibly powerful suction as well as an HEPA filter that will assist anyone suffering from allergies. On top of that it comes with a powerful battery that can clean up to two hours, and it automatically returns to its dock once its bin is full.

Smart mapping is a different feature that allows it to identify areas in your home that require attention and creates an easy path to get around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does a great job of moving around toys that have been left scattered on the floor, or furniture legs that stick out from under things. Roomba also has a sensor that snaps Roomba to its real-world location if it begins to drift away from its original location.

iRobot has also introduced a new set of rollers beneath the Roomba's bottom that do not have bristles, and thus tend to resist tangles better than previous models. These are also a little higher than the older rollers, and will fit better under beds and couches with low sides and are designed to allow this model to move more easily on varying flooring types.

What sets the Roomba 980 apart from other models with a higher-end price tag, though, is its inclusion of a new dirt detection feature, which uses a camera to spot particles of dirt embedded. This is a significant improvement over the best mop and vacuum robot previous model that relied on a sensor-driven pseudorandom cover method to bounce around the room, and then clean the area three times, at different angles.

In our tests of its performance, the Roomba 980 did well on carpets and hard flooring. It scored very well on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a fair job of picking up pet hair, but it had a difficult time with very thick and long pet fur that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the best value robot vacuum performing robots in our list despite the minor drawbacks. It's also not as expensive as top-of the-line models. It's got plenty of features that we'd expect to see in a top-of-the-line model however, it doesn't come with all the fancy apps or smart home integration you'll find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and start working immediately. After taking off the yellow bin insert and the battery pull tab from the undercarriage, it is simply connected to an outlet on the wall or to its Home Base docking stations, hit the “Clean button” and let it do its job. It will return to its dock when the battery runs out or it's stuffed with debris. It also has indicator lights on the top of the device to indicate that its bin is full, it's time to recharge or if its Wi-Fi signal is not working.
