After a string of social media posts hints at it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally announced its NFT (non fungible token) Project. Space Key, developed in collaboration with an unidentified artist, and based on cutting-edge carbon fiber composite materials that were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a new project which was announced by Lamborghini.

It was developed in collaboration with an unknown artist The NFT is a collector's item that will be auctioned off within a couple of weeks. Its underlying structure is made of advanced carbon fibre composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part a research project. Carbon fiber was 3D printed to form the base of each Space Key. Each Space Key is linked to an exclusive digital artwork via QR codes. Only five Space Keys were produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that are recorded in distributed ledgers like the Blockchain and connected to digital assets such as images. They're all the rage for those with more money than So it was only a matter of time until an automaker decided to capitalize on the trend.

Space Key consists of five units. The components were built with a physical part of the carbon fiber composite that was shipped to the ISS in 2019. After weeks of social-media posts that hinted at it, luxury automobile maker Lamborghini finally announced its first project involving tokens that are non-fungible (NFT). It's called the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT by the unidentified artist. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO™, the “collector's work” is limited to five units and will soon be auctioned off.

At the center of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved with a QR codes that link to the digital component in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that occurs at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of five images was shot by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera, which took each of the individual shots which were later merged into the final image. The result is an out of this world photograph that captures both the beauty of the Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic picture of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, but the exact date and time of the auction haven't yet been set yet.

Each NFT will be sold separately and the winner will get an original digital art work by the renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments that the Space Key experienced during its journey through space.
